Muldrow – Funeral services for Vernon E. Barnes, 87, of Muldrow, were held at 11 a.m. on Monday, Dec. 4, 2023, at Agent Mallory Martin Chapel in Muldrow.
Burial followed at Blackjack Cemetery in Muldrow under the direction of Agent Mallory Martin Funeral Service, Inc.
Mr. Barnes was born on Oct. 5, 1936, in Gans, to Josie (Taylor) Barnes and Joe Filmore Barnes. He died on Monday, Nov. 27, 2023, in Muldrow.
He was married to Mary Ann Riggs on Aug 17, 1956, in Spiro.
He was a retired police officer from both the Roland and Gans Police Departments. Survivors are his wife, of the home; three daughters, Karen Harkreader of Muldrow, and Tina Barnes and Dianna Barnes, both of Roland; two sons, Jimmy Barnes and Melba of Bokoshe and Kenneth Barnes and Sue of Roland; four granddaughters; seven great-grandchildren; one sister, Dovie Hopkins of Roland; two brothers, Alton Barnes and Barbara, and Herbert Barnes and Gail, all of Muldrow; and several other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three siblings, Leon Barnes, Ernest Barnes and Edith Mc-Glothlin; and two baby sisters.
Pallbearers were Travis Steele, Austin Brunk, Jarrad Duty, Tyler Spencer, Blaine Steele, Robert Woods and Tony Lewis.
Honorary pallbearers were Members of Bruton Lodge No. 30.
