Parents – Grandparents Teach the Children
By Shirley R. Watts,

Teach the Ten Commandments

“And teach them to your children and your grandchildren… “You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, when you walk by the way, when you lie down, and when you rise up” (Deut.4:9; 6:7-9).

“Jesus said…”’You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind’… “This is the first and great commandment…. “And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself.’ On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets.” Matt 22:37-40 The Ten Commandments

“You shall have no other gods before Me.”

“You shall not make for yourself a carved image” “You shall not take the name of the Lord your God in vain.”

“Remember the Sabbath day, to keep it holy.”

“Honor your father and mother.”

“You shall not murder.”

“You shall not commit adultery.”

“You shall not steal.” “You shall not bear false witness.”

“You shall not covet.” Mom, Dad and grandparents do you know these commandments? Have you taught and explained them to your children and grandchildren?

The Ten Commandments are very important to life. They are God’s Word to us! Our children need these today as much as they need a math or science class. It is a shame the schools and public places have removed them.

They may remove them from the public places, but they can’t remove them from the minds and hearts of our children. It is so important that they are taught! I believe Satan has moved very fast even in this area. The morals are out of sight today. The world hates the Name of God!

Now is the time, we can’t let anything prevent our teaching this, and next generation God’s Law-The Ten Commandments. It is best to teach them as young as possible, for as they reach the pre-teen and youth, it is more difficult to get them to listen. Society is introducing the opposite as we speak…now is the time!

Once in the heart it is harder for them to ignore them, and when they grow up , if not before, God will convict them of them.

It is important that you are living the example of knowing God and His commandments. The lost world, most of society hate God’s Word. Why? It is because they bring such conviction of sin and they must choose right or wrong.

Jesus confirmed the Law.”’You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, and with all your mind…This is the first and great commandment… And the second is like it: ‘You shall love your neighbor as yourself… On these two commandments hang all the Law and the Prophets” (Matt 22:37-40).

The Ten Commandments cannot save anyone, for Salvation is in Christ, but it is a mirror that tells you that you are a sinner…lost and condemned. If you hear God’s Word and ask God to forgive you, place your faith in Christ you have eternal life. No one can please God in keeping the Law. We still have a sinful nature and rebellious attitude. Can you imagine a generation who stays in rebellion and they know not God’s Law. It will be our fault. We must teach them!

“That the generation to come might know them, The children who would be born, That they may arise and declare them to their children,” (Ps 78:6).

What does it mean to please and honor God? It is holding God in high respect. It means loving Him above all. It is obedience!

We must teach the children today! We don’t want God to say this about our children and grandchildren: “And He said: ‘I will hide My face from them, I will see what their end will be, For they are a perverse generation, Children in whom is no faith” (Deut 32:20).

They may not accept God’s Word and Christ’s Cross, but you can say that you taught them God’s Law.

Pastors, parents, and teachers teach and preach The Ten Commandments to all ages.

“… Jesus said, “Let the little children come to Me, and do not forbid them;” (Matt 19:14).

God Bless!
