Roland – Memorial services for Marvin Leroy Bates, 80, of Roland, will be held at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Sept. 27, 2023, at the Agent & Mallory-Martin Chapel in Muldrow. Burial will be at 11 a.m. at the U.S. National Cemetery in Fort Smith, Ark., under the direction of Agent & Mallory-Martin Funeral Home.
Mr. Bates was born on May 29, 1943, in Port Arthur, Texas, to Spain Leroy Bates and Willa Marvin (Pyeatt) Bates. He died on Tuesday, Sept. 19, 2023, in Roland.
He was a clinical social worker, a veteran of the U.S. Army and of the Methodist faith.
He married Vicki Rutkowski on Aug. 16, 1969, in Dallas, Texas.
Survivors include his wife, Vicki Bates of the home; one daughter, Wendi Bates and Dale Pilcher of Fort Davis, Texas; one son, Brian and Jessica Bates of Muldrow; three grandchildren; and other family members and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Gerald Bates.
