Central Lady Tigers get first wins of season
By DAVID SEELEY Sports Editor,

It took games No. 11 and 12 to do it, but the Central Lady Tigers got a pair of wins Thursday after they swept a home doubleheader against Canadian, winning 11-1 and 12-4.

The week started with a 7-1 road loss to Fort Gibson on Aug. 21, followed Aug. 22 with a 9-3 road loss to Wilburton.

The week ended, however, on a down note as the Lady Tigers were shutout 6-0 Friday afternoon at home by Wister.

In Thursday’s opener, Ayrland Jiles (2-11) threw a three-hitter with eight strikeouts.

Jiles got all the run support needed after her team fell behind 1-0 the opening inning as Central scored four runs in each of the first two innings, a single run in the third inning and two runs in the fourth inning to put the game into run-rule status.

In defeat, Avery Warner was 2-for-3 with two runs batted in and two runs scored, Kallie Henning was 2-for-3 with a double, three RBIs and a run scored, Brianna Taylor was 2-for-3 with a run scored and Alyvia Warner was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and a run scored.

In the nightcap, after falling behind 2-0 in the first inning, the Lady Tigers (2-11) scored six runs in the third inning, twice in the fourth inning, a single run in the sixth inning and three runs in the seventh inning.

For the game, Avery Warner was 3-for-5 with three runs scored and an RBI, Henning was 2-for-4 with an RBI and a run scored, Cambree Bair was 2-for-3 with a home run, two RBIs and two runs scored and Allie Harris was 2-for-3 with a double and an RBI.

Jiles got the win, this time fanning 11 batters and throwing a four-hitter.

In the loss to Wister, the Lady Tigers were twohit by Wister’s pitcher as a single apiece by Jiles and Avery Warner was all Central could muster. Jiles took the loss.

In the loss to Fort Gibson, the Lady Tigers only could muster an RBI hit by Jiles off Lady Tigers’ pitching. Jiles also took the loss.

In the loss to WIlburton, the Lady Diggers rallied from a 2-0 deficit after an inning with a four-run second inning to take the lead for good at 4-2.

The Lady Tigers cut the deficit to 4-3 in the third inning when Jiles scored from third base when Wilburton had to throw to first base to record the third strike on the batter after the catcher dropped the pitch. However, that was as close as Central got.

Central’s first two runs in the opening inning on an RBI single by Jiles, who later in the inning stole home, for a 2-0 lead.

In defeat, Jiles was 3-for-4 with a double, two runs scored and a run batted in, Avery Warner was 2-for-4 with a run scored and Keeley Poindexter doubled for Central. Jiles took the loss, despite striking out six batters in six innings.
