Trina Curtis of Gans recently had a pretty good week — a load of produce she sold for four figures.

The next day, the Holy Spirit spoke to her, and told her to give away her produce for free.

So she went to Walmart, bought some poster board and markers, and wrote FREE on it.

That’s when she decided she would sell what she could for a couple of hours and then give the rest away.

But that didn’t work. Then she decided she would give away the produce and accept donations from those who offered.

But that bogged down. So she relented. She heeded the inspiration of the Holy Spirit and offered her produce for free.

Her customers couldn’t snatch up the freebies fast enough.

“The Holy Spirit will convict you of things. When it says free, it wants you to give it away free,” says Trina’s 13-year-old daughter, Sissy.

The produce Trina sells comes from Webbers Falls growers Shelby & Ross Produce, also known as S&R.

The melons in the photo are starbrite watermelons, cantaloupes and Black Diamond watermelons. Starbrites commonly grow up to 30 lbs., but there was an instance where Trina had an 80-pounder, and last year, a monstrous 105-pounder.

Do you like yellow-meat watermelons, which are usu- ally sweeter than the red-fleshed ones? Trina expects to have some next week.

“We’ve had a lot of good people here in Sallisaw,” Trina says. “We put lots of smiles on people’s faces.”

“It’s a lot of fun to see people happy,” Sissy interjects.

Trina sets up at the Sallisaw Farmers Market, located in the parking lot west of Stanley Tubbs Memorial Library, each day Monday through Saturday.

On this particular day, she also had tomatoes, okra and strawberry jam, made from 600 lbs. of Stilwell strawberries.

“God blessed me, so I blessed others,” Trina concluded.
