Last Monday’s first meeting of Fiscal Year 2024 for the Sequoyah County Commissioners proved a busy one, with more than 30 agenda items to be addressed, which is about three times as many as usual.
The commissioners considered awarding bids for sixmonth road materials for the county’s three districts, which would be through Dec. 31. The commissioners voted to accept all bids received based on “proximity to and availability of materials.”
Those awarded the road materials bids were: APAC Central Inc., Coastal Energy Corp., Cullum Equipment Services, DP Supply Company, Emery Sapp & Sons dba Hutchens Constructions, Ercounty gon Asphalt & Emulsions, Job Construction, Logan County Asphalt Co., Longan Construction Co., Mid Continent Concrete Co., NSP Stone Supply, Robinson Construction, Soil Chem LLC, Souter Construction Co., Stone Splitter Aggregates, T&C Asphalt Material, Tulsa Asphalt, U.S. Lime Company-St. Clair, Vance Brothers Inc., Wildhouse Stone, Wilson Culverts, and Wright Asphalt Products.
A bid from Fensco Inc., which was postmarked before the bid submission deadline but was delayed in transit, is expected to be included for consideration on the commissioners’ agenda for their next meeting.
The commissioners also approved:
• A resolution designating depository banks
• A correctional communications services agreement between City Tele-Coin Company and Sequoyah County Sheriff ’s Office
• A resolution for a Freise Family private cemetery
• Renewal of annual detention service agreements by and between Community Works LLC and Sequoyah County for Cleveland County Regional Juvenile Detention Center and Pottawatomie County Detention Center
• Fiscal Year 2024 updated disaster recovery plans for the following county offices: Commissioners, District 1, District 2, District 3, treasurer’s office, assessor’s office and county clerk’s office
• Appointments of Angela Gist and Lisa Choate as requisitioning officers as well as appointments of Ginger Stump and Megan Cheater as receiving officers, all for the county treasurer’s office
• A claim for the Federal Highway Administration to be paid from the County Improvements for Roads and Bridges (CIRB) account related to the Blackgum Landing Road resurfacing project in District 2
• Payment to Robinson Construction in the amount of $65,480.71 for the Indian Road Emergency Repair in District 2. “We are making some big-time headway for sure; they’re ahead of schedule,” District 2 Commissioner Beau Burlison told his colleagues. “We’re looking forward to getting that road open.”
• A notice of intent to apply for a hazard mitigation planning grant by Sequoyah County Emergency Management • Reimbursement to Sequoyah County 911 in the amount of $8,976 from American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA) funds for recorder upgrades to new radios to ensure compatibility
• A purchase of two 2023 Chevrolet fourwheel- drive crew cab trucks to be added to the sheriff ’s office fleet
• An updated list of active reserve officers for the sheriff ’s office. “We want to make sure that our insurance covers our reserves when they’re driving county vehicles, and also covers them as far as worker’s comp and all that,” District 3 Commissioner Jim Rogers explained to his colleagues. “We just want to make sure we have an active list. We just wanna make sure they’re covered.”
• Renewal of the county treasurer’s office investment policy for 2023
• Acceptance of Officers Annual Report and Estimate of Needs as presented by county offices
• Cash fund estimate of needs and request for appropriations
• Receipt of monthly reports, as well as approval of blanket purchase orders The next regular meeting for the commissioners is 10 a.m. Monday at the Sequoyah County Courthouse.
