Lady Bulldogs Win Checotah Crossroads Classic

The Class 4A No. 17 Muldrow girls’ basketball team won its second tournament of the season Saturday night inside the Checotah Even Center by defeating Wagoner 58-35 in the title game of the Checotah Crossroads Classic.

    The Class 4A No. 17 Muldrow girls’ basketball team won its second tournament of the season Saturday night inside the Checotah Even Center by defeating Wagoner 58-35 in the title game of the Checotah Crossroads Classic.

    Earlier this month the Lady Bulldogs finished first in the Armstrong Bank Sequoyah County Tournament at Roland.

    The Muldrow boys placed third in the Checotah Crossroads Classic with a 66-34 victory over Checotah on Saturday.

    Muldrow Girls 58, Wagoner 35 (Title Game)

    Cailey Grinstead, Katie Grace Floyd and Kennedi Wight registered a combined 34 points and Muldrow (12- 3 for the season) outscored Wagoner (8-7) 40-20 in the final three periods as MHS went on to win the Checotah Crossroads Classic championship Saturday night.

    Muldrow led 18-15 at the end of the first stanza before adding to their advantage in the second (17-5), third (8-6) and fourth (15-9) periods.

    Grinstead tied for gamehigh scoring honors with 12 points and Floyd and Wight added 11 apiece. Also scoring for Muldrow were Carmen Fields and Katelynn Moore (5 points each), Kennady Moore (4) and Mason Anstine, Lani Israel, Claire Tabor, Dri Rogers and Maysi Fields (2 apiece).

    Brooklyn Austin was Wagoner’s leading scorer with 12 points.

    “Our girls played really well for three days,” Muldrow head coach Jana Armer said. “They responded well after us being off the last week due to illness. We were pretty well down the week before so we were kind of worried about us coming out and playing and if we’d be able to play the way we wanted to play but I thought we did a good job.”

    Prior to Thursday’s tournament opener Muldrow had not played since Jan. 8.

    Muldrow Boys 66, Checotah 34 (3rd-Place Game)

    Konnor Wight hit six 3-pointers while recording a game-high 24 points Saturday at Checotah as Muldrow downed the Wildcats in the Checotah Crossroads Classic third-place contest.

    The Bulldogs (10-5 over all) led 26-11 at the end of the opening quarter and 39-16 at the intermission after outscoring Checotah (6-7) 13-5 in the second stanza.

    Trailing Wight in scoring for Muldrow were Trenden Collins (11 points), Jaqwond Casey (10), Fisher Qualls (6), Kaden Chandler and Kashan Buhkari (5 each), Nick Rhodes (3) and Josh Price (2).

    Montana Warrior was Checotah’s top scorer with 13 points.

    Muldrow Girls 60, Checotah 27 (Semifinals)

    Cailey Grinstead knocked down five 3-pointers while scoring a game-high 19 points Friday at Checotah as the Lady Bulldogs cruised to the win over the Lady Wildcats in the semifinal contest.

    The Lady Bulldogs led 20- 12 after the first eight minutes and 37-15 at the half after outscoring Checotah 17-3 in the second period.

    Trailing Grinstead in scoring for Muldrow were Kennedi Wight (16 points), Lani Israel and Addison Allen (4 each), Katie Grace Floyd, Katelynn Moore and Claire Tabor (3 apiece) and Dri Rogers, Jensi Fields, Kennady Moore and Maysi Fields (2 each).

    Hayley Forsblom led the Lady Wildcats in scoring with 11 points.

    Eufaula Boys 61, Eufaula 53 (Semifinals)

    Muldrow’s Trenden Collins scored a game-high 22 points Friday night at Checotah but three Eufaula players scored a combined 54 points as the Ironheads downed the Bulldogs in the semifinal contest.

    The score was tied 24-all at the half but Eufaula outscored Muldrow 17-14 in the third and 20-15 in the final eight minutes.

    Trailing Collins in scoring for the Bulldogs were Konnor Wight (11 points), Kaden Chandler and Fisher Qualls (8 each) and Jaqwond Casey and Andrew Luttrell (2 apiece).

    Providing the scoring for Eufaula were Khelil Deere (19 points), Alex Parish (18), Justin James (17), Riley Morgan (5) and Jake Parish (2).

    Muldrow Girls 56, Stigler JV 22 (1st Round)

    The Lady Bulldogs outscored the Lady Panthers 28-0 in the opening quarter Thursday at Checotah in their first-round tournament contest.

    Muldrow’s Kennedi Wight led all scorers with 12 points and also registering points for Muldrow were Claire Tabor (9), Jensi Fields (7), Cailey Grinstead (5), Katie Grace Floyd, Lani Israel, Kennady Moore and Mason Anstine (4 each), Chloe House, Maysi Field and Addison Allen (2 each) and Carmen Fields (1).

    Ashton Hollie led Stigler in scoring with six points.

    Muldrow Boys 56, Wagoner JV 34 (1st Round)

    Trenden Collins and Konnor Wight scored a combined 29 points Thursday at Checotah as Muldrow downed the Wagoner junior varsity team in its tournament opener.

    Collins recorded a gamehigh 15 points in the contest and Wight followed with 14 for Muldrow, which led 30-14 at the half.

    Trailing Collins and Wight in scoring for Muldrow were Fisher Qualls (8 points), Kaden Chandler (7), Andrew Luttrell (5), Drew Prewett (3) and Jaqwond Casey and Josh Price (2 each).
