The town of Muldrow was declared as a “Purple Heart City” on Sept. 9 by Muldrow Mayor Catherine Jones (front, center) signing the proclamation with Mitch Reed, Legislative Ambassador for the State of Oklahoma, presenting the town with signs which will be posted throughout the town. Reed said the declaration would proclaim the town of Muldrow recognizes and supports veterans and is a “vet friendly” town. Muldrow is the second town in Sequoyah County to be designated as a Purple Heart City. Sallisaw has also been declared, Reed said. Attending the declaration were members of Muldrow VFW Post #8384 and the auxiliary. Seated with Jones are Muldrow Vice Mayor Darren Keith (left) and Larry Edwards (clerk/treasurer). Behind her are Trustees Stephen Michael and Patti Rhodes. In the back row from the left are VFW members Danny Bates, Tommy Gipson, Harold Lasiter, David Hall, (Reed with sign) Edward McLaughlin, auxiliary members, Tina Bates, Christine Lewis and Barbara Wilson with David Wilson in the back, right.
