Roland Girls, Boys Improve to 18-3 with 3 Wins

Roland’s boys take on Spiro at home Friday on Senior Night before ending their regular season on Monday at rival Muldrow.

The Rangers’ seniors, Jaxon Wiggins, Xavier Robertson, Cole Davis, Marcus Murray and Tyler Hattabaugh will be honored at 6 p.m. and the girls’ game is scheduled to start at 6:30 p.m.

Last week the Rangers moved to 18-3 for the season with victories over, Poteau, Stilwell and Idabel.

The Rangers overcame a one-point halftime deficit by outscoring the visiting Warriors 10-2 in the third period on Saturday inside Carl Matlock Fieldhouse as Roland won its third consecutive game of the week.

In the first stanza Jaxon Wiggins (7 points) and Marcus Murray (4) led Roland in scoring while Jaquevean King’s seven points helped Idabel take a 14-13 lead.

Each team scored 13 points in the second quarter and Idabel led 27-26 at the break. Wiggins and Murray recorded six and four points, respectively, and Xavier Robertson hit a 3-pointer for Roland and Aarron Hale had four for the Warriors.

Wiggins registered six of his game-high 22 points in the third period as the Rangers outscored the visitors eight points.

Jackson Kemp’s four points in the final frame helped the Rangers add two points (11-9) to their advantage.

Trailing Wiggins in scoring for Roland were Murray (10 points), Robertson (7), Kemp (6) and Cole Davis (2).

Scoring for Idabel (7-12 overall) were King (14 points), Hale (8), Nathaniel Mullen (6), Lamar Rutherford (4), Reece Scales (3), Jonathan Wharry (2) and Jordan Jones (1).

Roland’s Jaxon Wiggins scored 14 of his team’s 23 points in the final eight minutes to help the Rangers overcome a five-point deficit on Friday as Roland registered a key Northeastern Oklahoma Athletic Association (NOAA) win at home.

Marcus Murray (4 points) and Xavier Robertson (3) led Roland in scoring in the first stanza as the Rangers took a 14-13 lead. Jorge Bautista, Stilwell’s 6-foot-6 center, led the visitors with six points in the period.

Robertson had four points in the second quarter but Cayden Lee recorded nine for the Indians, who led 25-21 at the half after outscoring the Rangers 12-7.

Despite Wiggins’ 11 points, Stilwell added a point to its advantage (16-15) in the third period. Gavin Pritchett and Bautista each totaled four points in the third for the Indians, who went to the fourth leading 41-36.

The Rangers erased the deficit in the final frame by outscoring Stilwell 13 points. Wiggins and Jackson Kemp (5 points) led Roland’s scorers and Codey Petree paced the Indians with four points.

Wiggins was the game’s leading scorer with 29 points and also scoring for the Rangers were Robertson (9 points), Kemp (8), Murray and Tuvaris Noonan (4 each), Cole Davis (3) and Darian Rougeux (2).

Scoring for the Indians were Lee (14 points), Petree (12), Bautista (10), Gavin Pritchett (8), Kobe Pritchett (5) and Ethan James (2).

The Rangers improved to 17-3 for the season and 9-1 in the conference to remain one game ahead of Checotah in the NOAA standings.

Roland Boys 62, Poteau 38 (Last Tuesday)

The Rangers led 34-16 points at the intermission before increasing their advantage by six points in the second half last Tuesday night as Roland defeated Poteau in a homecoming contest.

In the first stanza Jackson Kemp hit a pair of 3-pointers and totaled eight points, Jaxon Wiggins recorded seven points and Cole Davis added three to help the Rangers take a 22-10 advantage. Jayden Mankin (6 points) and Dean Odom (4) provided the scoring for the Pirates in the period.

Wiggins and Kemp registered four and three points, respectively, in the second quarter while Mankin made a pair of 3-pointers as the Rangers outscored the visitors 12-6 to lead by 18 points at the break.

Each team scored nine points in the third period. Kemp led Roland with four points and Colton Williamson had four for the Pirates.

Wiggins registered six of his game-high 20 points in the final frame and Xavier Robertson added four to Roland’s total and Odom recorded six points for the Pirates.

Trailing Wiggins in scoring for Roland were Kemp (15 points), Davis (9), Robertson (6), Darian Rougeux and Tuvaris Noonan (5 each) and Marcus Murray (2).

Poteau’s top two scorers in the contest were Mankin (16 points) and Odom (12).

The Rangers improved to 16-3 for the season and the Pirates dipped to 6-13.
